Google Drive Me Home
Using Google Drive wasn't something that I did very often, so using it for our class exposed me to it more. I've learned how to properly use all of the features, and it's automatic saving makes it so much easier to keep track of your work without worrying if you saved it. It also lets you share your documents to other people in order for them to take a look and comment or just view. I think that after this class I'll still continue to use Google Drive because it makes everything so easy for me, and whenever I need something I've worked on it's right there.

Peer Review
I feel like the peer reviews/evaluations that we have give every one a chance to improve what they've originally written and to understand what they should and shouldn't do when writing. It's very helpful for me because I always second guess myself or completely pass over mistakes in my writing. Having another person reevaluate what I've written and honestly tell me what I have done wrong or right is a huge plus in this class that I wish my high school would provide for students.

My inability to do stuff on time.
As the title says, I'm not really known for getting things done on time, or ahead of time I guess you could say. I especially have a hard time finishing stuff that I'm not really invested in or if I recently bought a new video game. The video game part was a slightly bad decision on my part. I knew I had a document to complete, but my inner child is like "yessss, my precious" (you'd get it if you've seen Lord of The Rings). This game in particular is Shadow of Mordor. I've been wanting to play it since I first found out about it and now I have it, so I can't stop.
On a side note, my doc 3 is also hard to finish because I can barely do anything with my topic of choice. Mostly because my brain capacity has just gone waaaaay down hill over the past few weeks. Do you ever get pumped up to finish something, but when you finally get to it your brain suddenly goes into a "nope" coma? Well, that's basically what has been happening to me for a few weeks now. I'm thinking of just going somewhere without internet (to avoid Facebook and Tumblr) or video game access, so that I can get my priorities straight. I'd go camp in the forest to avoid all connections to distractions, but I literally live in the middle of a fudgin' pecan field. No forests whatsoever.
R.I.P Erica.

AHS or TWD?
Surprisingly, I couldn't think of something to post about since this was our first open choice post in a while. I was lucky though that as I was trying to think of anything I was scrolling through ole Fac-e-book and came across posts over what possibly could have happened to Glenn in The Walking Dead. It sparked the idea to have a little vote over two of my favorite shows. Which would you prefer or like the most? The Walking Dead or American Horror Story? Also, which season did you like the most? I'm purely going off the assumption that a lot of people watch these shows or at least watch TWD, but if you're one of the lame ones (just joshin'), what do you like to watch?
I think Orange Is The New Black needs an honorable mention too. These women are awesome.

Periwinkle is Life
I have to admit my favorite blog was my friend Mariah's, Periwinkle. I didn't enjoy it just because I've known her for so long, but because it's the most creative and funny. I love going to her blog and finding hilarious pictures or stories that she's actually experienced. I guess it's kind of like learning new things about her without actually hearing it from her in person. Her posts were never truly serious enough to where it was boring to read, but instead very original and interesting. I actually hope that after this class is over that she'll keep the blog and continue making people laugh.

Revision Decisions
How I revise a document mostly depends upon what kind of document it is. If it's something as simple as a short writing assignment like a single paragraph I'll just reread it to make sure everything is written right grammar and content wise. If it's something like the Doc 3 assignment we were given before Thanksgiving break then I would reread it myself but also get someone else's opinion. How I revise larger assignments is a lot like how we do the whole peer evaluation thing because I like to have another persons's view on what I have written. Getting someone's advice or criticism on something helps me a lot on understanding what my document sounds like from another's point of view. It lets me know what I need to fix or leave as is.

Child vs. Adult Showdown
Not really sure if this is supposed to identify the arguments between children and adults or to explain the differences between their individual conflicts, so I'm just going to wing it. Okay, so just about everyone in the world has had some kind of conflict with their parental unit or another adult as a kid. Half of the time it's over some of the dumbest stuff too. For example, a teenager (still considered a child) could get all fussy with their mother/father for not letting them go somewhere, you know how it is, hormones and what not. Majority of the time arguments like this only last for about a day then they're being their usual self and complaining about whatever they wanted. It's nearly impossible for someone to hold a grudge over something this stupid, but sometimes there will be that one kid that has the worst temper/attitude in the world. As a kid I always knew that I'd never win an argument against my mother because she is the most stubborn person I've ever known, except for that one time she couldn't deny how adorable this stray cat was that I brought home one day. That day was a good day.

Snow in Georgia? Yeah Right.
As a child I never really interacted with other kids that much. Most of the time I either played video games or, on special occasions such as holidays, I'd play something like hide and seek with some cousins. I definitely can't relate to Dillard's story because A.) it practically never snows in Central Georgia and B.) I live in the middle of no where surrounded by only old relatives, so you can kind of guess why I was always inside. Plus, I never really liked to 'hang out' with people. I always preferred being by myself reading or something. Other times I had a pet to play with which I also preferred. I guess I just wasn't much of a people person, but I've slowly gotten used to it. I actually go places now (mostly thanks to my license).

Empathy? Is that a kind of sandwich?
First off, I'm sorry if the title sounds like this is going to be a mean post, but I had literally nothing to write other than that or "Empathy in Writing", and we all know how boring those post names are getting. Anyway, I like to think that I already put a good amount of empathy in my writing, but I know that in some things that I write I don't even think about the reader, I'll just throw in whatever sounds good. I think that if I think of the reader before anything else when writing I can provide that proper line between the reader and I. Thinking over what the reader finds interesting or what they would like to hear is a good way to start, but I guess it all depends on who you are writing for/to.

'MERICA
I'm pretty sick of all of the controversy over guns in America. There's all of these people saying "I need a gun to protect my family," or "guns kill people". Most of the people that take the arguments to extreme levels are the ignorant ones that believe their opinion is the only opinion. I honestly could care less whether I was able to carry a firearm or not. I'm more of in the middle of everything where I think that it's okay to have a gun, if you have proper training and know what you're doing, but if you just want a gun to have one and don't even know the proper way to handle it, then no, you definitely don't need one. Every argument in the world is a matter of perspective. Everyone expresses their own opinion, but seriously, if you don't even know how to use one what's the point? I especially don't approve of firearms if the person has children and they don't know how to keep it somewhere safe. I've heard about three stories on the new already about a kid grabbing their dad's gun and shooting either them self or someone else. On the other hand though, the disagreement that guns kill people is probably the dumbest rebuttal in the universe. Yeah, sure guns kill, but it can't really go around killing by it's self can it? There has to be someone behind that gun to pull the trigger. Therefore, people kill people. It's plain and simple. If you don't want "guns to kill people" do a freaking background search on whoever wants one or owns one, or possibly just restrict them to certain groups of people. Sure, you can't round up all the crazy murderers or people that could mentally snap out of no where, but it's a start.

Conflict With The Fam
I've actually had a lot of conflicts with different family members. Of course everyone has had an argument with their parents or siblings, but a lot of the arguments with my mother were legitimate conflicts that got in the way of "family bonding". My mom and I never really saw eye-to-eye. We always got into fights over our fair share of stupid or more serious topics. Majority of the time was because our opinions were complete polar opposites. One really big thing was over gay marriage (yes, the most controversial topic in the universe). My mom believed that it was okay to be homosexual, but they had no right to be legally married because it was a sacred bond between man and woman. To add onto the ignorance, my mother is a Christian, so of course she threw in the whole "The Bible says"( not saying all Christians are like this). If you're like me, you know that continuing an argument after someone says this is an argument that shouldn't be acknowledged anymore, but seeing as I wasn't having a particularly good day, I did what no one should do. I continued to prove points that The Bible had so many things wrong with it, like little holes in the story. I can't really remember if this was the point where I finally admitted I wasn't Christian, but somewhere along the way my mom completely ignored me for a few days. She also seemed to completely ignore the fact that I openly admitted to being Atheist. All in all, family sucks but you have to love them. Unless they're like my cousin, a back-stabbing you-know-what.

Best Information...So Far
I haven't really gone over as much information as I should have within the time we've had this assignment, but I still managed to learn some new things about German Literature. The one bit of information that interested me the most was where it all started. Their literature isn't really dated back until the tenth century because "the earliest written record in any Germanic language, the Gothic translation of the Bible by Bishop Ulfilas, in the forth century, does not belong to German literature". It was understood that instead of writing, early German cultures relied primarily on verbal hymns that they passed down to later generations. Whenever I come to something like this I get the urge to just try and research as much as possible where it all began. I've always been really interested in the origins of anything and could see myself walking through an extremely old library looking for anything that could tell me about what I was researching. I guess I have an adventurous streak.

Too Many Feels
Since we are required to use quotes from Manning's story, and I couldn't really find anything that had to do with a family member other than a father, this post is going to get a little personal. I'm just going to be pretty blunt about this whole father thing and give you the quote I picked.
"I discovered that I was feeling sorry for my father."
This pretty much sums up what I was feeling/thinking when my dad came home drunk one day (he was an alcoholic). He started yelling at my mom about something I can't remember. I was kind of too young to remember all of the details, but I still remember when he was about to hit my mom with some huge container and my brother basically tackled him to the ground. At this point I'm crying and my dad and brother are wresting each other. Eventually they're both up and my dad has him by the throat literally holding him off the ground. My mom eventually steps in and yanks my dad's ponytail (yes, he had a ponytail lol) making him let go and screams at him to never touch her kids again. She forces him to leave and go to his friend's house. Over time my mom and dad had arguments over his alcoholism and let him know that he either kept drinking or kept us as a family. I actually wasn't aware that they were about to divorce until after his death which was a huge surprise to me. I always saw my parents as the two happiest people together. I never really thought that his drinking was a huge problem since he never really hit us or anything too serious. Over all, I started feeling sorry for him that he had this really bad habit that could have torn our family apart, which it probably was going to if he was still here.

Writer's Block
There's literally nothing more frustrating to someone that loves to write than writer's block. I absolutely hate when I have an assignment such as this one and can't even think of what to write. Luckily, this unfortunate "disease" actually does give me something to write, or complain, about. I'm not sure what it is in the brain that causes this, but anytime that I think of something awesome to write then go to type it up the whole idea just disappears. On the other hand though, I'm currently stuck in my Astronomy class which basically consists of our teacher lecturing over slides the whole time while half of the class is sleeping. I guess I'm just too tired to even think because he has that put-you-to-sleep voice that makes you want to pass out on the spot. He's a great teacher though. He just needs to get the students to interact to keep them awake. Well, since I've already gotten sidetracked and am likely to do it again at this moment, I'll sign off with a goodnight.
MLA and APAyeeeeeeee
Both MLA and APA are used for academic writing. MLA is the one used the most and known the most. Just about everyone knows the basics to MLA such as double spacing, size twelve font, and Times New Roman. APA on the other hand isn't used much by younger academic writers like in high school, but once you've reached college level classes APA tends to show up now and then. The importance of these two in writing is pretty simple. They give a basic set of, I guess you could say, rules to write by. They make sure that whoever is writing correctly states their point through professional or academic means. Without MLA and APA, essays and papers wouldn't have the right amount of authority that is required for academic writing. They'd merely express an opinion rather than strongly stating facts.
What Wiki Has Taught Me
I've learned a lot more from my research than I originally thought I would have. I definitely didn't learn any of it from my Wikipedia article though because it's pretty awful. Most of the new information I've found came from different sources such as books, websites, and sometimes newspaper articles. German Literature is actually a more broad topic than one would imagine. You'd never really think about it in different forms of writing. Some writings are actually in English, French, or other languages other than just German. There's just as many genres as there are in English Literature too. There isn't much difference in Literature except the ideas that author's put out. You also have to think about different time periods in which Germany and other German speaking countries went through tough times. A country's current living conditions or political standing could greatly affect how an author portrays their opinions. It's merely a matter of when and where.

Wikipedia Introduction
To me, a good introduction for something like a Wikipedia article should cover the basics of the topic but not reveal too much. The introduction usually has the definition or basic explanation of the overall topic too. There isn't really much to say about an introduction. As long as it has proper grammar and contains the right information there shouldn't be any major problems. It's a plus too if the writer makes it more interesting by adding information that no one would really think of or find anywhere else.

More Wikipedia Related Things
The organization of the new Wikipedia article that I chose is so terrible that I can't wait to edit it. There's barely enough information to understand the general study of German Literature. The only things that I could see were lists of authors and dates. There might have been at least 2 full paragraphs throughout the entire thing. Not to mention there were only 2 references. The only organized parts were the time periods that they used. It really frustrated me too that they completely failed to include German poets.. in a German Literature article.

Humor is A Funny Thing
My life basically consists of strange situations, but the one I have to deal with the most is people talking about their fathers or when teachers ask questions about family. Over the many years I have lived, I've learned to tie humor into practically everything from awkward situations to sad situations. A lot of people actually think that my humor is more dark than other's, but that's only because it's my way of coping. It's been a little over 7 years since my dad died from a motorcycle accident, but I still have problems actually opening up about it to this day. The only way I can talk about it is when it's in a humorous form. For example, my friends were having a conversation about their fathers and the funny things that they did, and I would suddenly say "well, my dad was stupid enough to fall asleep on a motorcycle. He definitely won't be able to talk to trees anymore". (The tree part is usually after the fact that I've already told them about this time he got so drunk that my mom found him outside talking to a tree.) The point is that anything involving fathers is strange to me since I've been without one for a while now, so anytime someone brings it up, I instantly make some really weird and dark joke. Let's just say my friends don't bring it up anymore because I basically make them feel bad. I've kind of learned to hold it in though unless I'm with really close friends because the only thing I hate more than liers is pity.

"Video Killed The Stereotypes"
To me, there isn't really a worst case when it comes between men and women stereotyping each other. They both are equally offensive. I guess it would all depend on the situation, like if a male and female are really good friends and the guy makes joke saying "go make me a sandwich woman", it'd be alright as long as the female is comfortable with it. I have plenty of those occasions with my brother or a really good friend. If it's with a stranger though and they are obviously uncomfortable with the phrase, it's not acceptable. The same goes for female to male conversations. Some stereotypes associated with men are they all cheat, they are all slobs, they all love sports, and so on, but I can list at least ten people that I know that don't like sports or have never cheated in their life. It's just a matter of individualized people instead of identifying all men/women in one group.

Readings for Language Interpretation
Finding references and articles to help me start off my reading list is a lot harder than I expected to be. I guess the main reason is because I chose such a widespread topic and didn't really narrow it down enough. Apparently it's rather difficult to find books over basic language interpretation. I've only really found specific language books for interpretation like German, French, and Spanish instead of a more generalized book. I'm also having trouble looking for credible websites that don't end with ".com", but I think that maybe I'll have to make a few exceptions. I'm just really, really, really hoping that I won't completely fail this assignment and will actually get some great things done.

Sloppy All The Way
In Suzanne Britt's essay she describes sloppy people being better as neat people. I always thought of neat people as being better because most people are raised thinking that the word "sloppy" was more of an insult or a not so great characteristic than a compliment. After reading Britt's view on the two though I realized that maybe sloppy is better. I've always loved collecting little trinkets or things passed down to me. It seems like I'm on the brink of being a hoarder but at the same time I can't stand trash or a cluttered house. It's actually really frustrating living with my mom right now because she's not much of a keep-everything-clean-at all times kind of person. Sure, there might be a pile of dirty laundry, but that's okay because it's better to clean them all at once than to clean each individual outfit right after you wear it. I guess it's just a matter of how you organize your messes that makes you a good or bad sloppy person. Neat people on the other hand are people that I couldn't imagine being. As Britt put it neat people will throw anything and everything away that isn't of use at that very moment or in the future. I definitely wouldn't be able to throw away such things as letters or birthday cards that were from someone I cared about. Since this is getting a bit long and it's time to leave (9:15 to be exact) I will point out the fact that my title kind of sounds like an "all the way burger or hotdog". Sloppy all the way... haha.

Homosexuality: No Problems Here
Same sex marriage has always been a very touchy subject for many years. Luckily, people nowadays are becoming more open to the idea. Personally, I can't stand the people that still hate and discriminate homosexuals. I was raised to not care what a person's sexual preference, skin color, or gender was. As long as they showed me respect I had no reason to hate them. The arguments that anti-gay marriage people express are completely irrelevant too! Procreation is not the main reason people marry. People marry because they love each other. They want to live their life with the one person that makes them the happiest, not because they want to breed more lives onto this earth. Katha also points out that marriage isn't shared with your average straight couples but a diversified collection of people. She says that "Virtually any man and woman can marry, no matter how ill assorted or little acquainted" they are. It seems anyone can get married as long as they're opposite genders. Society needs to come to their senses and realize all of this is a pretty ridiculous argument. Anyone should be able to marry anyone.

Writer's Voice
The writer for any Wikipedia article, whether it's over a hilarious movie or a super serious disease, has to have some kind of authority to their "voice". In order to show that the writer knows what they are talking about they must write in a more academic manner. It helps the readers have a sense of trust that what the writer has written is true and factual. Readers will most likely find it very unnerving if someone writes a Wikipedia article as if they were texting their homies. As long as the writer maintains a professional and explanatory, or informative, tone the reader should have no problem understanding the article. Unless the writer actually doesn't know what they are writing about...then not so much.

Language Interpretation
For my Wikipedia topic I chose language interpretation. I specifically chose the sections of the article that explained Escort and On-site interpretation because the two related the most to my chosen profession and seemed to need a little more work. Even though I'm not a hundred percent sure that the specific career that I want will be given to me in the military, I still focus my learning around face-to-face translation. The main reason I'd like to interact with the people that I am interpreting for is because you learn so many different things about another person's culture or background. Talking in a foreign language is also really cool. Just imagine being sent to another country full of uniquely different people to translate while you get paid for it. I actually can't wait to accept any opportunity to travel that pops up. Hopefully doing more research and editing this Wikipedia article will teach me a lot of other things about language interpretation that I can use in the future.

Wikipedia Readers
I was a bit confused as to exactly what "handling a reader in Wikipedia" meant, so I'm just going to throw things out there. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of capturing the readers attention and properly defining the information on a particular topic. Maybe making the text interesting by adding facts that people wouldn't normally see unless they looked deep into the subject? I've never really read a Wikipedia article all the way through myself because the ones I have read only had the most basic information that someone would have already known. On the other hand, as Professor Hamon likes to emphasize, "Authority" is the best way to get to readers because it shows them that you actually know what you're talking about.

Anime Weekend Atlanta
Have any of you guys heard of the Anime Weekend in Atlanta (AWA)? If you have and are interested please see me after class to become my new friend. It's actually harder than some people think to find another person that likes the same kinds of anime and nerdy stuff as yourself. I'm not that much of a geek, but I do enjoy immersing myself in all things nerdy. Anyway, the AWA is a huge anime convention in Atlanta, Georgia only on a certain weekend in September. I'm actually going with my brother (unfortunately) and some friends, and we're even cosplaying. If you don't know what that is it's basically like Halloween where you dress up as your favorite character. Just because anime is in the name though don't think that that's what you're limited to. There are a lot of people that actually cosplay as video game characters too. I've seen some really cool Assassin's Creed and Borderlands cosplays and really wish to be that good.
The female ones are my favorite because you never expect such awesome costumes from a game with a male main character.
They also have really cool events like a ball and rave party. Plus, there's all the awesome booths that sell pretty interesting stuff, just don't buy manga books there because they are way more expensive than at a book store. Overall, I love being able to interact with other people like me outside of the internet and participate in such cool activities. It's especially amazing when you cosplay as a group!
P.S. this is who I am cosplaying as.

Peer Evaluation
For our Doc1 Assignment we had to evaluate, or comment, on another group's paper while a different group looked over ours. It was a bit scary at the beginning, but I started to realize exactly how helpful the whole experience was going to be. I'm usually not used to people commenting on my academic papers because I'm always the go-to person at my high school for anything grammatical or literature related. This time people were critiquing my work, but it was really helpful. It showed me the places, or things, that I needed to work on so that I could further my understanding of writing.

Wikipedia Topic
Finding a Wiki topic to edit on Wikipedia wasn't as hard to find as I originally thought it would be because I already have a specific profession that I would love to do. It only took a few minutes for me to find "Language Interpretation". I chose this topic because I've been wanting to learn all kinds of languages, along with their cultures, out of pure passion for all things foreign. I especially can't wait to become fluent in German, which is one of my favorite languages in the world. I'm still kind of nervous to edit something on Wikipedia, but hopefully it won't be as bad as I'm thinking it will be.

Marching Band Life
Since I am terrible at thinking of topics to post about I'm just going to gloat about how proud I am of our High School's football team but sorely disappointed in the Marching Band. I'm actually a clarinet player in our band, but I've very abruptly come to the realization that we have gone down hill pretty quickly. Since our band director allowed 7th graders to join marching band we now have a lot of newbies to train, but some of them are untrainable. At our first home game she also insisted that we march while playing, which we hadn't done yet on the field except for practice, so naturally it was a disaster. Luckily, the football team's major win distracted everyone from our epic fail. I'm actually very proud of our 35-0 win from Crawford County High School, a school that was known for its very long losing streak.

Writing to Learn
Through out my school life I've learned that writing isn't just something for communicating with people; it's also used for knowledge. People don't really realize how much writing can teach us. I've learned a lot of things through writing, including a different language. Thanks to The Little, Brown Handbook I've realized that my Spanish teacher's technique of having students re-write words over and over helps them really learn the language. Through writing I also learn different ways to further my own works of literature.

Doc1 Experience.
The Doc1 assignment that our groups of three or four had to create definitely taught me a few things about working together with a group, but it also helped me realize how much work has to be done within a certain amount of time. I have to honestly admit that I've never been the best person at dealing with projects, or really anything, that requires a deadline. I especially can't get school papers done that are over particularly hard to research topics in a short amount of time such as the one we had to do. I'm thankful for the professional online image topic though because it also taught me to be careful of what I publicly post online. It's given me a more mature outlook on social media and websites that display personal information, and I hope to use the advice my group and I found on the topic for my own experiences on the internet.

As Above, So Below
Okay, I couldn't help it, but I just watched what I think to be the best movie I have ever seen in my entire life. I just couldn't help but blog about this, so please bare with my over excitement. If you aren't familiar with the movie As Above, So Below, it's a horror film set in present day Paris, France in an underground tunnel system that is said to hold some kind of really historic relic from about seven hundred years earlier, and a group of people led by a couple obsessed with historical objects. Even though I didn't get to watch it from the very beginning I could still understand the primary plot which was great. I'm not really sure how to explain the awesomeness of the movie in words without completely spoiling, but you guys have got to just trust me and watch this. The whole idea behind it was just phenomenally creative and out of this world. I've actually never been this excited about a horror movie. I had the perfect way of expresses the movie's greatness, but completely had a brain fart when I started watching another movie (lol). I'm a sucker for movies. Well, thanks for reading, and go watch As Above, So Below!!!

Career Decisions Suck
Considering I'm not graduating High School until 2017, I'm not a hundred percent sure on my intended profession. I've sort of always wanted to be a professional photographer that traveled to take some of the most beautiful photos, but the realization of that not being a very successful career money wise made me think of other options. I definitely still want to travel and take some great photos, I just can't live off of that dream. So instead of photography, I have a different passion but for language. I'm dead set on becoming a translator in the United States Air Force, and was actually really hoping to take German here at the college, but sadly, I found out the Professor left. I've actually been excited to learn German for years and am currently trying to learn through apps and my friend that has previously taken his class. I've also developed back-up plans in case my military career doesn't work out. Additionally, I've taken Animal Sciences, some form of Literature/Writing related occupation, and Psychology into mind for a different pathway, but I really hope that the Air Force takes me and Arabic isn't as hard as it looks. Stranger Danger?
Hello fellow college people, mostly everyone knows me as just Erica but for some it's Keebler. It's a pretty funny story, but I won't bore you with my lame sense of humor. I am in Professor Hamon's English class for the main purpose of gaining college credits for the future while I am still in High School. I mostly chose English 1101 because it is a core class that I need in order to graduate, but I have learned from the first two days that this class will be even more beneficial to me since I like to think of myself as an avid writer. Other than writing, I really enjoy reading. I read a lot of different genres and types of literature, Manga included. I also play video games like Assassin's Creed, Skyrim, and Destiny. I've recently gotten into watching Korean Dramas rather than Anime. I have three furry kids, Alice, Yoshi, and Cali. I'm also almost a hundred percent sure this introduction is way too long and that I have no idea how to tell people who I am, so I'll end it here. Can't wait to experience more of the college life!
